29 Sep 2010

Kieran Garvey, BSc student at the LSE and participant of last year's ICCL seminar "Business Model Innovation at the Base of the Pyramid" is currently expanding Bloom Microventures to Vietnam.

Kieran and his team have so far run three tours taking tourists to Soc Son, a rural province outside of Hanoi, to pioneer microfinance tourism in Vietnam - following the footsteps of his fellow-student Lain Heringman's model in Mexico, who helps impoverished indigenous communities by organizing a responsible tourist programme in their home villages. Kieran plans to have the project managed by a local team to ensure the pilots become a sustained business model with tours running at least 3 times a month to intially 3 destinations in Northern Vietnam.

Kieran's new initiative has already gathered great interest of local media and tourism operators. The participating tourists have so far been very enthusiastic about the initiative.

More information on the Vietnam project is available here.
