Pepal (India and Uganda)

Together with Pepal, a social enterprise that facilitates partnerships between the private and non-profit sectors to achieve sustainable social change in the developing world, the ICCL is developing business model innovation programmes in India and Uganda. The participants, strategically paired individuals from private and non-profit sectors, receive joint training to arm them with the theoretical tools they need to conceive and implement new business models.

In India, where the programme has been running since May 2010, the partners have been working on a wide range of initiatives, including:

  • developing a web-based initiative to support fundraising for maternal and adolescent health in low income communities
  • establishing a training centre for community groups that offer services to sexual minorities
  • setting up new income generating businesses for women and unemployed youth.

In the Uganda initiative which started in September 2010, participants will explore how to build economically sustainable and scalable business models that address the needs of women, children and marginalized communities in Uganda. Participants will then work together, remotely and face-to-face, over six months to refine, test and implement their projects before coming together again in Kampala in March 2011.
